Karate Newsletter ~ June 2022

Here we are in June–knocking on summer’s door.

The last couple of years have been challenging for our school. Since the time we closed for Covid we have only recovered about 30% of our students.

Below is a quote from Mr. Bob White which I believe is so very right on.

“A couple of years ago I hit some tennis balls with a good friend of mine who is a tennis pro, Andy Stewart. As I mentioned, he is a good friend. When the lesson was over, I paid for the lesson and Andy said I did not have to pay because it was on him. I told him that he was a professional and I know this is how he makes his living, and I gave him the money. I am sensitive about this because, as a person who also gets paid for the services provided, I have experienced people not wanting to pay their dues and [they] assume they don’t have to contribute to the school. There are not really many wealthy karate instructors or tennis teachers for that matter. In order for a service business to stay open, it is important that responsibilities are met. If the attitude is good, you give gladly, knowing it is an investment that will give you big returns.”

Your support is gratefully received. Remember, we are a 501C and donations are tax deductible.

Now for a bit of good news. First, on June 29th at 7:00 pm, Mr. White will be promoting David Brock to his 9th degree. Mr. White will be presenting him the belt he (Mr. White) wore for over 20 years as a 9th. David Brock has had a tremendous 50-year career as a student, competitor and teacher. I am immensely proud he will be Mr. White’s highest-ranking student. The ceremony will be conducted at Mr. White’s school in Costa Mesa where I know there will be a full studio of witnesses eager to show respect for this Kenpo Legend. If possible, drop by and congratulate this Kenpo Great.

Secondly, on July 9th we will be celebrating Mr. Bob Mitchell’s Birthday, here at KAKK. This will be festive and a prime opportunity to get photos and to meet some of the most exceptional martial artists. The event will be a potluck from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. If you have any questions, please email me at wycl55@sbcglobal.net

Hope to see you all at the studio soon.
Thank you.

January 2019 – Kellogg's American Kenpo Karate

Happy New Year!

We have an exciting year coming up. On January 19th, we will be participating in the United Martial Artists for Christ Beginner’s Tournament at Calvary Chapel West Grove in Garden Grove, CA. It’s a chance for young first-timers to gain experience in competition, be encouraged and receive special coaching in a real tournament environment. We invite parents to bring their children for this rewarding introduction to sparring and competition.

Later this month, International Movie Star and Martial Arts icon Richard Norton will conduct a seminar here at the studio. His experience and expertise on the movie screen in reality is dwarfed by his prowess and knowledge as a martial artist, exercise science practitioner, communication master and sports psychology expert. His training experience in the martial arts goes back over 55 years. He’s also a close friend, student, and colleague of Chuck Norris! Don’t miss the opportunity to learn from this legend in martial arts.

In March, Kellogg’s American Kenpo Karate students will be competing in the Annual Bob & Barbara White Invitational at Edison High School in Huntington Beach, CA and we will also be hosting a special seminar with Master Eddie Downey from Celbridge, County Kildare, Ireland.
